For our guests that are flying in for our wedding, THANK YOU!!

We know it's a big investment (money & time) to fly to San Francisco. If you are able to, we want to encourage you to extend your trip and see some of our favorite places in California - the place we made our home!

Golden Gate Bridge

Picture of Golden Gate Bridge

Can you really say you've been to San Francisco without seeing the bridge?? For our out-of-town guests, we want to warn you that it is foggy and cold in San Francisco! It's so foggy that the SF fog has its own X (formerly known as Twitter) account! If you want to take the perfect picture with the bridge, please follow these tips!

1. When to Visit the Bridge: The fog in SF is created by the cold Pacific ocean water mixing with the warm Californian temperatures. May to October is the peak fog season in SF. Most of the fog will burn off in the afternoon, so your best chance to see the bridge will be after 3pm in the afternoon.

2. How to Check if the Bridge is Visible: Instead of planning a specific time to go see the bridge, we advise our guests to have a flexible schedule on Bridge Day! You can monitor whether the fog has passed with the Golden Gate Bridge Live Webcam.

3. What Should I Wear: Bring a jacket and dress in layers, even if you're Canadian! It gets very windy and chilly in San Francisco!

3. What's the Best Location to See the Bridge: Based on our personal experience, here's our favorite spots to see the bridge/take photos with the bridge!

Best location to take a photo with the bridge: Fort Point! This is our favorite location to take a photo of ourselves with the bridge. You can also go into the fort and take photos of the bridge through the fort windows.

Best location to take a photo of the bridge: Golden Gate View Point! This location is inside the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. In our opinion, this location offers the best view of the bridge! This is also the windiest area on earth, so we would not recommend trying to take a photo with the bridge here.

Yosemite National Park

Picture of Yosemite National Park

About a 4 hour drive west of the Bay Area sits Yosemite, one of the most popular national parks in America. If you love the outdoors and hiking, this National Park is a must see! Yosemite has something for everyone. If you're an experienced hiker like Kai, there's the Vernal Falls Trail and the Upper Yosemite Falls Trail. If you hate the outdoors and/or exercise like Yubo, the entire National Park is driveable in your rental car :) A couple of tips for this National Park:

1. Purchase a Permit Beforehand: If you plan on visiting Yosemite during the weekend or on a (US) federal holiday, a permit is required. These permits are really popular so we would recommend planning your trip early!

2. It's Hot in Yosemite: Bring lots of water! If you plan to hike around Yosemite, make sure to be prepared. A lot of the hikes are long and it's important to stay hydrated during your trip.

Big Sur

Picture of Big Sur

Highway 1, the coastal highway, is the longest state route in California. Along this highway lies Big Sur, a state park with stunning natural and man-made sites. This state park is perfect for camping, sunsets, or a quick in-between stop for those who want to drive down to Los Angeles from San Francisco. A couple of highlights from our trips to Big Sur:

1. Sunset at Brixby Bridge: The sunlight simply illuminates Brixby Bridge during golden hour! This is one of the most popular locations in Big Sur to watch the sunset. However, in recent years, we noticed that the sky above Brixby has consistently been cloudy during the summer :( But we discovered that if you drive down Highway 1 for about 30 more minutes, there's a beautiful vista point where the sun sets into the mountain range. This is our favorite sunset spot in California!

2. Other Highway 1 Must Sees: In addition to Big Sur, we'd also recommend otter-watching at Point Lobos and exploring Carmel-by-the-Sea during your drive down Highway 1! For locals, there's a man who sells avocados (10 for a dollar) and bonsai trees on Highway 1 near the Marina/Seaside area. If you've ever bought avocados or bonsais from this person, please let Yubo know... she's always wanted to buy a bonsai from this man's truck.
